Kathryn Hawkins is an experienced home economist based in central Scotland. She is a food writer, recipe writer and food stylist, and a former cookery editor of Woman’s Own magazine.
Her writing career began in the late Eighties on BEST magazine, but since 1992, Kathryn has been freelance. She has worked for a wide range of food clients such as Slimming World, DC Thomson, Dr Oetker, Sainsbury's, Baxter's and Marks and Spencer. She has prepared food for hundreds of photographs on food packaging and in advertisements, as well as in magazines and books. To date, she has written over 20 cookery books.
Kathryn has been living and working in Crieff, Perthshire, since 2004. From here, she is within easy reach of Scotland's major creative cities. With the knowledge and skills she has gained over the years, Kathryn also teaches and demonstrates on a variety of cookery subjects.
Kathryn is a supporter of the worldwide Slow Food organisation and lives a few miles away from Scotland's first Cittaslow town, Perth. "It's all about enjoying the best of what's around you; supporting local farmers and producers; caring for your environment; educating and inspiring the young, and protecting your heritage for future generations". In her home town of Crieff, Kathryn is a part of a team of volunteers who run the local tourist association and country market. She has organised local events like a Taste of Strathearn and a recent Berry Festival in Crieff - see photo. Kathryn also works with local chefs acting as a restaurant and menu consultant and helps them promote seasonal and local produce in their establishments.
